Compassion for Ya’an, Yihai Folks in Action

At 8:02, on April 20, an earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale struck Lushan County, Ya’an City, Sichuan Province.

Beijing Municipal CPPCC Committee Member and Yihai Group’s Board Chairwoman Wang Linda was in America at the time. After hearing the news, she immediately made a phone call from America, requiring the company’s person in charge to organize an emergency videophone conference of all subsidiaries across the country, to study the disaster relief work.

In the afternoon on April 24, Yihai Community’s Large Donation Raising Assembly for Earthquake-stricken Lushan of Sichuan was held in Yihai Branch of Beijing No. 8 High School. More than 3,000 people were present at the Donation Raising Assembly.

The Donation Raising Assembly first had a flag-raising ceremony and a silent tribute. At the assembly, Ms. Wang, the student representative, teaching staff representative and administrative staff representative respectively gave a speech in succession, calling on everyone to actively take action, offer their love and contribute their strength, in order to help the earthquake-stricken people pull through with practical action, continue to pass on the philanthropic spirit of Yihai.

The Donation Raising got active responses. Led by their parents, children in Yihai Kindergarten also donated their pocket money in their saving pots to support the earthquake-stricken area. The Donation Raising Assembly raised a first batch of donations of RMB 347,000 Yuan and 1,701 USD, which were all transferred to Overseas Chinese Charity Foundation of China on April 25, to be used for supporting the reconstruction of the earthquake-stricken area in Lushan, Ya’an. The rest donations were handed to Overseas Chinese Charity Foundation of China in succession to assist with the reconstruction.
